Montreal is often referred to as a mecca for urban jibbing. After the first stop of the Canadian Shield series at Tremblant, I had the opportunity to stay in the city and do some filming with the Nowamean crew and for 8 Chapitres, a tv show on RDS, depicting the different lifestyles and paths of Canadian snowboarders.  Look out for it on the Push.ca French site.

The second stop of the Canadian Shield Series has come and gone, leaving behind about 50 cms of new snow! The contest was postponed a day due the blanket of snow covering Mount Seymour. All set backs aside, the contest ended up being really fun, with nice soft landings and clear skies. I ended up placing second, putting me in the top spot for the series thus far. Unfortunately, I have to miss the next stop in Calgary as I am currently on my way to compete in the World Cup Slopestyle in Stoneham, Quebec, but hopefully the last stop in the spring will go well and I’ll be en route to El Salvador (the grand prize) once again!

This winter, I have the honour of training with the Canadian National Freestyle Snowboard Team, certainly a new challenge for me! Contest season is officially underway and I have a very busy schedule planned with events throughout British Columbia, Eastern Canada and a few stops in the U.S. So far things have been going very well: 3rd place in the BCSA Slopestyle at Seymour, a qualification for the World Cup in Stoneham later this month and 2nd is the first stop of the Canadian Shield snowboard series at Tremblant this past weekend. I am spending some time in Montreal this week to do some filming in the city so check in soon to see photos and footage of my adventures, as well as results from upcoming events.

Hi everyone! Well I’ve been in Whistler for a few weeks now and am settling in nicely, spending my days working hard at the gym and watching the snowline creep down the mountains. The mountain is scheduled to open on the 24th, but there’s rumour it may be opening this week so fingers crossed. However, Cypress actually opened last week and I made it down for their second day. Only one run was open, but it was great getting back on the board for some warm-up laps with an amazing ocean-view.

In other news I’m officially riding for Powder Room outwear this year, so I’ll be flying down to Memphis, Tennessee next week to take part in next years catalog shoot for the company. I’ve never been, so of course I’m really, really excited to have a chance to visit a city that was a breeding ground for so many old-school blues, soul, and rock and roll musicians.

Come December I’ll be flying down to Colorado to spend three weeks training at some of the best snowboard parks in North America including Breckenridge, Keystone and Copper Mountains with a few riders and our main coach Joe McAdoo from the Whistler Valley Snowboard Club. Whistler and Blackcomb parks aren’t usually ready until the end of December, so I’m super pumped to be able to take advantage of some early season mint park conditions.

Fall is over and the Mountain is open! Super happy to be back on snow as this was the first full summer off snow since I started when I was 14! Whistler opening was super fun, then it snowed 72cm’s, nothing but good times! Then the next thing I new I was off to Nashville for the catalogue shoot! Needless to say I LOVE Nashville.

The first night we got there, one of the legendary local bars, Tootsies, was having their anniversary. They had a huge stage set up on the main street with live music all night. We even got to see one of my fav’s, Kid Rock perform! Amazing! So was going to one of the Drive in Diner’s and Dive’s place. The food! I would go back for that and the music. What a place. Everyone must go!

After 4 days on the shoot it was back to snow, Whistler. I go the chance to ride Blackcomb for a couple days before heading to Colorado. It was nice to hit jumps again! Now I’m in Colorado for a few weeks starting with the Grand Prix at Copper Mtn. Followed by the Dew Tour at Breckenridge. I’m feeling rejuvenated after a summer off snow, and couldn’t be more excited for the season!

Ok, let’s do this now since I need a serious brain brake, this is nuts. Herbology is insane and even after 3 days of non stop studying I still can’t make sense of it. Haven’t even attempted to start studying for the other exams…
Last week of school then home free!!

Back to School

Apparently change is good even if you don’t see it right away. I’m sure betting on that statement right now.
Last September, I decided to move to the big city of Vancouver from my loving Squamish mountain town and start school in Traditional Chinese Medicine, a 5 year I don’t have a life Doctor program…

All this being done, I got myself committed and with some doubts every other week I powered through the semester with some really cool new friends at school but then the snow started falling in the mountains again and I had to get out of here.  Luckily the Powder Room/Ripzone shoot came right on time. It had been my light at the end of the tunnel for months and off to Memphis we went to shoot for next years cathalogue. Memphis, Tennessee is a little far away from the snow but that never keeps the whole crew from having a good time and eating whatever is put in front of us at all times. From a whole cow of ribs seasoned with their local specialty or anything that they can deep fry and I mean anything. We even went to visit Graceland where nothing much has changed since Elvis left the building. I was shocked when I saw that not only he was buried there but he’s entire family. Amazing.

I came home with a little detour road-trip trough Seattle as my passport got stolen in Memphis, but they let me back on Canadian land pretty easily. Now snowboarding is in full swing and Whistler feels more like January condition then early December. Feels so good to be back on the white golden stuff again.

1 more grueling week to go with school, 8 classes to finish off before the holidays.
My Herbology class in all in Chinese, it’s hard to make sense of anything literally. School is easier to succeed in then snowboarding but I’d rather do a big half-pipe contest then any of my finals that I have this week.
